License terms
Last updated: November 8, 2026
Every theme, plugin, template and app sold on Kitbox (an “item”) comes with a license. You buy the right to use the item under the terms below. You do not buy ownership of the item or its code.
Regular license
- Use the item on one website or one device, for yourself or for one client.
- Commercial use is allowed: the site or app can make money.
- Includes 12 months of updates from the purchase date. After that the item keeps working; you just stop receiving new versions until you buy again.
Extended license
- Use the item on unlimited websites or devices you or your company control, or by a team of up to 5 people.
- Use it in client projects you build and hand over, as long as the client does not resell the item itself.
- Includes lifetime updates.
Free items
Free items can be used on unlimited websites and devices, for personal or commercial work, under the same restrictions below. Some free items carry their own open-source license (for example MIT or GPL); when they do, that license is included in the download and applies instead.
What no license allows
- Reselling, sharing, sublicensing or giving away the item, alone or bundled, even modified.
- Uploading the item to another marketplace, file-sharing site or public repository.
- Removing copyright notices or license checks.
- Using the item in something that competes with it as a downloadable product (for example, a theme built from our theme and sold as a theme).
License keys
Each purchase includes a license key (it starts with KB-). It is shown on your order, in your account and in the order email. Some items ask for the key to activate updates. Keep it private: a key shared publicly may be deactivated.
Open-source parts
Items for WordPress may include code licensed under the GPL. Where the GPL applies to code, it takes precedence for that code. Images, design files and other assets remain under these terms unless stated otherwise.
Ending a license
A license ends if the order is refunded or charged back, or if these terms are broken. When it ends you must stop using the item and delete it.
